21st Century Skills Curriculum Projects
developed by
Dale H. Melton

The curriculum for PSY 2012 is being modified by the incorporation of  21st Century skills. This goal is being met in a variety of ways:

21st Century-oriented Syllabus:  The PSY 2012 syllabus incorporates the 21st Century skills in both the objectives of the course and the learning activities conducted in the course.

Career-related interview project (expandable to shadowing and identification of a resource speaker for the class): The purpose of this activity is to provide students with the opportunity to interview a person working in a Psychology-related field to learn about the use of 21st Century skills in the interviewee’s career.  If the student desires further exposure to the person and his or her career, a shadowing experience may be scheduled.  Each student also will identify any of these persons whom they believe would be willing and appropriate resource speakers for the class.

Individual learning activities: A variety of individual learning activities keyed to the FIPSE core skills has been developed for each unit of study including:  crossword puzzles, on-line unit review questions and assessment tests, and videos with accompanying worksheets.  These activities are published on the professor’s website.

Group learning activities:  These activities, conducted with small groups of students working on unit-related projects keyed to the FIPSE core skills, include:  group discussions of the results of assessment tests, gaming, problem solving, diagnosis of disorders, and surveys. These group activities also are published on the professor’s website.
